Thread: Nameplate signs

    Default Nameplate signs

Signs like this, listing the names of lake cabin or home owners, are pretty popular here at the turnoff intersections from county highways:

I've been getting requests from new owners to make a sign "just like that one" but with their name on it. I recently got asked to duplicate this one (top) in size, font, and colors:

I said OK, but I would need to charge a bit more, as I would need to buy custom paint colors - 1 quart minimum - and would probably never get to use it again. What do you know, I'm not even finished with this first order, when another customer brings in the identical format sign, wanting one sign made identical and one made slightly wider and shorter:

I went from almost losing money on the paint to a nice profit!

BTW the letters on the red signs were not made with the Text tool but are vector cut with a 1/2" ballnose. I drew the vectors using snap to grid, copying the style of the original letters as best I could. I suspect the original signs were made with a router and a template kit, who knows how many years ago.

They look great! Thanks for the update. After attending the conference and listening to Tom Watson, I am thinking signs can be a nice side income. Don't think I will become a Multi-Million dollar business that Tom appears to have but I am definitely going to be make some signs...
