Default Shaft that raises the head

Bought a used CW. right side of the head wouldn't move up or down. So I took the cover off the bottom and found out that the prev owner broke the plastic where the screw goes into holding the shaft up. other then buying a new bottom piece any suggestions on how to keep the shaft tight against the gears. other then maybe superglueing the piece back togather.

I had one break and I make a wooden U shaped holder that when the bottom plat is on will hold it up. See attached picture from the manuel.
