Thread: not cutting all the way through

  1. #1

Default not cutting all the way through

I appreciate the help that I have received so far on the forum

    Here is my problem

I am not getting an object cut all the way through

The board thickness is at 2.25 inches

the cutting depth is set at 1.125 figuring that as half

I am cutting the top and the bottom

when I flip the project it is not cutting all the through around the edges

    any suggestions

I am on skype if corresponding there would be more effective

I have tried to increase the cutting depth and have gone as high as 1.75 and not had it appear in the software

    that is is cutting through

I have adjusted height but not sure which way to adjust

I had purchased des 2.0 and the 2 inch long ball nose

I imported the object into designer from a cad file so don't have much input on how the cutting file was created

You can see with the red arrow that that is pointed at the bottom that it is not going all the way through

    in the software rendering

I would have thought that selecting a depth of 1.125 or half of the thickness of the board that is would have carved all the way through

I have a board on the machine and have run the job and it not going through by about 1/4 inch or so

From the pic it looks like you have assigned a round over bit. Are you trying to use this bit to cut all the way through from both sides?

I'm still not clear on what you have done. Height and depth settings apply to patterns and have little to do with actually cutting out the pattern. Select the pattern then select "outline pattern" from the tools menu. Copy this "Path" to the back of the board and flip it vertically. Make sure it aligns perfectly with the path on the front using the "attach" tool on the verticies or corners. Then, assign the 1/8" long bit to the path at a depth of 1.127" and an offset as -.125. You will have to use manual tabs or some sort of way to secure the pattern so it will not move around while it's being cut out.

Another way is to use a "Pierced" carve region but, with the board depth at 2.25" that probably won't work either. What version of the software are you using? Do you have the 2D and 3D add-ons?

EDIT: I might add that the 1/8" long carving bit is not designed to be use as a cutting bit. You may break the bit.

Max cut is 1". Both side equals 2" leaving your remaining 1/4".

Long bits are carving only. They are not cutting bits.
