I really like the eagle head carving the best. Where did you get the design? The eagles I have tried are not as impressive.
I scanned in a drawing I did, then used Corel Draw to properly shade and blend.
I sure could use a copy of that elk.....How did you come up with that?
By purchasing it from Vector Art.
Really like the way your carvings turned out. As a "newbe" I am still trying to learn all I can about how to set up the carvings.
Can you answer a few questions to help my learning curve?
I am interested in what depth and height you set to carve these patterns and also did you feather them?
Thanks for sharing...
Don
I feathered the frame rectangles 1/4". There is no point in feathering the carvings themselves when using a carve region rectangle around them because feathering only works on the outside of the carving, so the carve region would carve out any feathering I did there.
I cut both at .375 depth and 150 height with a .500 carve region behind the elk and flying eagle. The eagle head is .250 at height 100 with a .250 carve region.
The question of depth vs. height seems to come up alot. My understand is (and someone posted this somewhere to teach me) that the computer is set for .250 depth automatically with 100 height. So increase height the same % you increase the depth. .375 is 150% of .250, so increase the height by 150%. If I set depth to .500, I would start with height 200. That keeps the top of the carving near the original surface of the board.
Thanks so much...It is starting to come together. Now I am beginning to understand why I got the results I did.
If I can only solve the y-axis, 236 error I'll recut some of my earlier trials so I can see the results first hand.
Keep up the good work.
