Help with carve region

See the attached MPC. The 4x6 square that has the angel wings on each side is where a picture is going to go. I want it to be slightly deeper than the rest of the region, but i'm doing something wrong, all it wants to be is higher. What am I missing?

Also does anyone have a cooler angel that then one i'm using with the baby? This is for a lady that passed on at a rest home. Your assistance is appreciated!
