For my vote leave the natural flaws. It is part of the nature of the woods. Charming rendition of the carve you are creating.

Thank you for your observations/opinions on using the epoxie. Since there will be three crosses I think I'll take the one with the one bug hole below the eye and try the epoxie... just to see how it looks.

Now my brain is working on using the buggie wood left over from the cross carvings. The pieces have some great characteristics of their own. Have to go shopping today (family expects me to cook for New Years Eve) but will be back out in the shop on Jan 2 if not on Jan 1. Happy New Years to everyone from Central Oregon.

    Sharon,

Nice work. I say leave the holes as they are -- celebrate the wood as it is.

I have to agree with the majority leave the wood like it is. I make the cross pattern in a plaque I never thought about cutting them out like that. That is my favorite pattern to cut I use glaze on the cross it gives it an old wood look to it.

Since both machine are down for repairs I decided to try and save the cross the "c" machine decided it didn't like the cut path assigned and made it's own cut path. With help of the dremel tool and a lot of sanding the inside cross doesn't look to bad. I used pieces of welding rod to hold the inside cross to the ourside cross. Since the outside piece had a lot of bug holes a few more holes, for the rods, hardly shows.Click image for larger version.

    Hello Sharon,

The cross looks good, a very good save. Love the wood.
    Rods were a good idea.
