I made this today for a gift for a secret santa exchange on another forum - (the giftee is a hand-tool ww'er so I very much doubt he'll see this) - I call it "mongo mallet" and it's definitely a "persuader" and only for the heaviest of tasks like chopping mortises.

I turned it in mesquite from right at the root ball so it is very heavy and has none of mesquite's normal tendencies to spletch/split. The end initials were made on my Carvewright in a piece of quilted maple. I did the initials and cut it out on the CW and then used a 2 inch colt maxicut drill bit to make a cavity for the disk. It fit like a glove... I love the accuracy we can get with our machines!

Thanks for looking,

Lawrence
