Thread: Why? Asks for a bit change for no reason.

Default Why? Asks for a bit change for no reason.

Why does the Carvewright LCD screen ask to replace a bit and then do nothing with it, it then asks for a second bit and does nothing with that one either. A third bit change then starts to carve.

If anyone has had this happen to them or knows why, please help!

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,
In the beginning, the machine will ask for each bit you have assigned. The last bit is usually the first bit to be used in the carving proceed. This is to register the original bit settings. Then, as it begins carving it will have those settings for the actual usage. If the 2nd does not match the 1st, it asks for the proper mounting of the bit. Its the way the unit protects itself and you.

this is standard procedure in the start up sequence to insure you have the bits you designed your project with and the machine will measure each bit and that measurement is stored in the machines computer. The sequence is the last bit to be used will be asked for first and the last asked for will be the starting bit to be used. After each bit is done doing it's carve and you install the next one being called for the machine will re measure the bit and compare to what it was during the start up. If it matches it will carve. If not you will get a prompt "refind or continue". This is to insure you installed the correct bit. If you choose refind it gives you that chance to install the correct bit, choose continue it will take the bit measurement as is and start to carve.

With all that being said,, if you know you have all the right bits you can just install the one you know that will be used first and leave it in the chuck for the complete measurement sequence for each bit. Let it do it's thing and start the carve. When the next bit is called for put it in and let it measure. You will get the refind prompt, hit continue and it will use the new measurement and carve.
