We need more Info! Attaching your MPC will help (with or wothout the dog pattern).
What size is your actual board?
Was/is it solid as you loaded it in to the machine, or was it pre-cut with the meshing ears prior the starting?

The board size is 4 X 4" mounted on a sled 14 inches long and 8 inches wide. The gouging happens on both full size boards and mesh ears.

We still need to see the MPC, as before.
Have you tried a flat 14(or 20) x 8 board, in order to prove the sled is not part of the problem.

The MPC is the actual design/project that you are attempting to carve.

Doesn't sound like a pattern issue then.

Measure from the Gouge 3.5 inches and you will find what is causing this... The Board is normally held FLAT to the sand paper belts by TWO rollers... IF you design the project and have a Height Change in your SLED or the board HITS a IN FEED or OUT FEED roller that is adjusted TOO High then the Board will move UP toward the BIT and hence make a GOUGE in the board.... I am betting a too high out feed roller table.

ALSO the 7 inch rule of wood comes into play here... IF you design the project and use wood that is TOOOOOOOOOOO Short... Then one end comes out from under the Roller and moves UP 3.5 inches from the Bit marking a LINE.....

But my money is on a VERY HIGH Out feed table and the board is hitting the board and lifting the board into the BIT....

Be sure to find and read TIPS and TRICKS on the LHR site.... Lots of PILOT Error stuff.... As in Crashing the Airplane before learning to fly....

    Good Luck,

My in and outfeed rollers are set 1/32" lower than belt rollers, rechecked with a straightedge today
There is no height change during the carve. The position of the sled is within 1/2" of being centered in the machine when the gouge started.
7 inch rule should not come into play as the carving board is 5 3/4" square and the length of the sled is 13.5" long and 9.75 wide.
If you enlarge the carving of the lab on my first Blog Entry, it looks to me that the tool gouged DOWN about 1/8" deep and 1/8" wide.

Having said all of the above, I ran a carving of the lab this morning on a 3/4" board, 30" X 7" and it carved fine.
Two unusal things happend during the carve. I got a power fluctuation message, My machine has a dedicated 30 amp power source just for the machine and my dust collector.
After the machine went through its setup procedure and the key pad said 'Carving', there was about a 15-20 second delay before it started to carve.
