    Question Dado Question

All, I am wanting to use a 5/4" piece of walnut for the base of a memorial flagcase.

I have programmed the carve regions to be two (2) 3/4" x 4" cuts and a 3/32" width cut the span between them for the glass.

Now, how much offset/inset should I need to make the widths perfect as I seem to be 1/16" too wide using the 1/16" carve bit.

    See attached mpc.

Not all of us have version three so we can not view your mpc.
If I understand your desire it is for a groove to hold the glass face.
The carving bit creates a tapered wall, why not use the 1/8" cutting bit?

Making pockets with the carving bit is not a accurate method. The taper of the bit makes it impossible to have vertical sides. Getting the right length and width is a trial and error type thing as the wood removed by the taper of the carving bit is not displayed in Designer. I would use a cutting bit for the pockets. As for the 3/32" wide 3/8" deep slot, hmmm... no idea with CW bits. Can the slot be 1/8" wide?

I would do something like this with the 1/8" cutting bit.
