If it were veneer I would say spiral cut spalted maple.

Interesting guesses, and good one's. But I think I must of misled you. I started building a second home and that is where the boards come from and where I brought my old Carvewright. I have planed 3 of the 6 (10"x1"x10') boards and my planer is having issues. The internet says it has a hardness of 1,970 lbf (8,780 N). Not sure what that means. So I think it could be too hard for the Carvewight A model. I have no intentions of bringing down my new machine when I get it.

OK hint time. On google earth cut and past this address below and you can see my winter home where the boards come from. They all look like the picture! One has a yellow 1" line that snakes through it and its really nice looking.

Zircote. If you look on my hardwood lumber page http://kansaswood.com/Lumber.html clear down at the bottom you will find a pic of wood just like it.

I still think it looks like Bocote...

Ahhh...looky what I found...they look almost alike, and are related (apparently):

"Bocote is related to Ziricote and possesses some similar characteristics including black lines, density, and overall appearance. This Central American hardwood is more plentiful than Ziricote so the cost is 25-35% less. Occasionally boards will have Birdseye figure, beautiful swirling patterns, and/or good variegation. Yellows fade to a tobacco brown while blacks remain. The wood is exceptional to turn, with a natural silky smooth polish that is easily attainable."

Well just finished making this kitchen table. Anyone guess this Central American Hard Wood?
Now for the final step, I am carving the project of the month "wheel barrel" project for a centre piece.
P.S. it took 3 guys to bring in the table. Barely. And the chairs weight a tonne.
