I use one for base coats on not so small applications. I like the ease and speed of it.

I have been using an Airbrush since the 1960, also gave classes years back, what a great tool.
I have always used and owned Paasche. What ever one you get, you need to get the Double Action model.
Have any question please pm me or e-mail me. More then happy to help out.

Why does it seem that there is never an easy answer on the CW Blog!
I use two Paasche air brushes. I have a dual action unit ("VL") that does good detail work. It needs about 20 PSI and will only shoot realy thin paint. I mean really thin. Not all air-brush "paints" work well on wood!
Secondly, I have a Model 62. This will spray anything! It needs avout 50 PSI. I have sprayed every type of lacker, varnish andm paint that you can imaging. I've even sprayed latex house paint on some bird houses. I do not know thw kind of work that you contemplate, but I would start with the Model 62. On my stuff I use the dry brush technique for detail.
Foirgot to add: A good source for air brush stuff is a company called BearAir. Steve is the manager a a very useful soul. Their prices are good and they are reliable. Michael's has started to cary some stuff, but they are oriented to t-shirts. Also, do not look for advice at Michaels.
Bill, your 100% correct the 62 dose a great job, I also have the 62. For what ever reason when I talk air brush I do not think about the 62.

This is the one I use, it works great for everything I have tried in it, 1/2 lb cut shellac, stain, watercolors... etc. It's cheap enough that you don't waste money if you don't like it.
badbert,
That is a really good price. never looked at the airbrush at Harbor Frieght.
