Made the wife some coffee cups wall art for her birthday for over her office coffee pot.
Cutting the letters out of some curly maple I ripped to 1/16" thick. Finished letters are about ¾" tall.
One of 3 completed. The finished size is approx. 9½" tall 7" wide and about and inch thick at the thickest point.
The bottom cup is Cherry, middle is Walnut, top is mahogany. The back part of the cup is birdseye maple, the steam is curly maple with some Aspen inserts. Normally for "Intarsia" sanding I get by pretty good with my belt/disc sander and my oscillating spindle sander but I messed up the first "saucer" part on the oscillator and wound up using a ¾" carbide round in an air die grinder on this second one. For some reason had a hard time getting the perspective right on the saucer part.
Used a keyhole router bit so they would hang tight to the wall.
Here they are hung up in the wife's office. She seemed to like them.
What do you think of them?
Thanks ~Mike
I did scan these they are in the pattern depot should be available as a collection soon.
