    Default Hemlock?

SO a neighbor called and informed me, there was a pile of wood in the trash next to his house. I of course investigated. There were 12 1" (not 3/4") x 12" x 9' shelving boards. I have some nails to pull and shelf paper to remove, but the wood is stamped #1 hemlock. Anyone ever carve Hemlock before?
