Ok looking for a 3D pattern to carve a wooden baseball.
I have a young man that collects baseballs and asked if I could carve him a full size wooden baseball
This is a freebie for him do any help is appreciated.

It's going to have to be done in slices...your carve depth is less than an inch and a baseball is just under 3" diameter...

It can be done in one piece. Recall the sphere in the cube. It was only a 2 inch sphere but it can be made much larger (limited only by the 5 inch machine height). If you can figure out how to add the seam and stitch pattern, it could be a baseball. Another option would be to find a 3d baseball on the web and use the STL importer to chop it up with 45 degree planes to get the same sphere patches as in the sphere in cube mpc.
Here is a height map I made. If you import it and place it inside of Designer without resizing it and then set it as a peirced carve with a height of 999 and add some tabs to it and carve on a 3/4 inch board it will carve out as a 3 inch baseball. You have to carve two patterns so you have 4 pieces.
The problem is that the sides of the seem stitch will not carve out perfectly. But it should glue together OK.

I managed to find a 3d baseball and converted it to STL. If you want to play with it, it is attached (as a .mpc to be renamed .stl).
