I was having trouble understanding some of the ways Designer handled images - using a photo or many of the great patterns posted here are still hard to visualize input vs. output. So I came up with the brainstorm of making a greyscale set of steps so it could be loaded in Designer and height/depth/feather/invert/etc. manipulated to see what the result might be. It has helped me, maybe it'll help others... It may even be fun to have one carved.

The pattern has a height of .75 and is marked B and W to mark which end of greyscale is which; the project board is 12" X 3.5" X 1" actual size.

Here is a pattern I need some help with.

I am not able to clear the border when lowered. Still shows around edges. I know it is something simple. Just cant seem to correct it.

It could use more work than this but I only had 10 minutes. Background removed, blurred a bit and double inverted from a negative.

Here's an Oval PTN that you can place anywhere, add a Carve Region, and you're good to go.
