Default 2.5 vs 4 inch dust collection hose

I am in the process of getting my dust collection set up. Any thoughts on 2.5 inch vs 4 inch collection hose? I want to move my DC machine from one to another.

bigger is always better when it comes to DC hose-- 4 is better than 2.5 and 6 is better yet... it comes down to CFM - velocity matters less (reducing hose size increases velocity but drastically reduces CFM)

I have to agree with Lawrence , the bigger the better. I don't feel that you will have the volume of air for a good job.

I would recommend using a 4" hose with a 2hp dust collector and keep the length as short as possible for maximum CFM air flow. Also, adding a 2 stage dust separator from Grizzly or Shop Fox will trap most dust and all larger debris before entering the collector bags. Please take a look at the Dust Collector hood for the CarveWright manufactured by ERWIN PRODUCTS http://www.erwinproducts.com
