Thank you all for the kind comments! I'm rather proud of this one.

It works in all regards. I actually took it out into the back yard for a few casts, in the snow no less. I don't think I would ever take it fishing, because with my luck I'd hook the fish of my dreams and tear the thing apart! But one of the main design goals is it had to work just like the real thing.

I've been working on it on and off for the past 5 months. It's made up of 20 parts made on the CW. The hard part, as I'm sure you can imagine, is the gears. If I ever come up with a set of gears easier to make I might think about selling the pattern. But I can already hear the angry shouts from shops coast to coast as people tried to get them just right. Oh, the humanity.... Lol

What can I say, guys? Keeping up with you guys is darn near impossible. I can only dream of making some of the stuff I see on here. This is my attempt at placing as an also-ran, so people would at least know I was here!

    Thank you all!

That is simply amazing. Monte wants you to take it apart and take pics of those gears! He says it's the neatest thing he's seen on here yet! I make him look at my screen now and then... and this one I HAD to show him!

    Default Gears

For those that asked about the gears, here's a quick shot of them.

I'm in the process of making another reel, and thought I'd take a pic of this set instead of taking the other reel back apart. I have two sets I'm playing with. The wood ones I'm still working on. These work, but could be better. I also made a set from acrylic, which would last a whole lot longer. Haven't made up my mind yet which I'm actually going to install.. Lol.

Both sets I cut on my laser. It's the one part of these reels I just can't get the CW to make without breaking. Open to any ideas if you have a clue how I can do it. I sure don't at this point.
