Hello,
Here is a preview of the next Project of the Month (for FEBRUARY 2012), the Quilted Heart Box.
Make a loved one smile with this unique “quilt-top” heart box! Fill it with “goodies” or...ahem...fine jewelry for that special someone in your life!
The project uses the 1/16" Carving Bit and the 1/8" Cutting Bit. No other bits are required.
The overall dimensions of the finished Quilted Heart Box project are about 8½" x 7½" x 2" ( or 3" or more) tall.
NOTE: This project includes an extra box-section mpc file for making one (or more) additional sections to increase the height and storage capacity of your box, if desired.
Main items you will need:
1) The Project Files (included):
• Quilted_Heart_Lid.mpc
• Quilted_Heart_Box.mpc
• Extra_Box_Section.mpc (optional)
2) Boards with the following dimensions:
Heart Lid: .75" x 9" x 23"
Heart Box: .75" x 9" x 24"
Extra Section: .75" x 9" x 16"
(NOTE: Do not use boards that are smaller than specified above, or if you are using a sled, you can subtract 7" from the length of the board and have the sled provide the extra 7" required)
3) Sandpaper, wood glue, clamps, stain and/or paint and clear finish, three self-stick felt or nylon disks for placing onto the underside of the box
4) A Dremel-type rotary tool with assorted sanding wheels and bits to sand small details and speed up preparation for finishing.
Apply stain/paint and clearcoat of your choice. Here’s what I used on my Quilted Heart Box made from Select Pine:
• MinWax Sedona Red stain #222
• Several spray coats of Krylon Clear Gloss acrylic
