joining two carved regions as one?

I'm trying to join two carved regions as one but I can't figure it out.....I can make the same shape by using the line segment tool with the arch tool.....but would like to know if there's a easier way or by joining the two regions together.....can someone instruct me how to do this please.

I should mention that I'm trying to make a sign with a arch centered on the top.....thanks again

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but using the rectangle tool, then making sure the vertices are "green", click the arch tool, and drag whichever vertex to the arch you want.

Highlight the shape, and make it a carve region to the depth you want.

There are many ways to accomplish your task, depending upon your beginning design. However, it may be best, in this case to draw your rectangle with the sides as high as you wish them to be.

From there, place your pointer on the top line somewhere that it changes to a four pointed arrow. Now, right click and select "ARC'. This will change that top line to an arc, as noted by the green dot in the center of that line. Next, point to that green dot and form the arc you wish.

IF you really wanted to think outside the box..... Take many shapes and overlap them.... Make each a Carve Region.... Then Select Outline.... It should outline the outside of the shapes... Delete the shapes and keep the outline....

Last Xmas I needed to cut out some Xmas Ornaments that had FEET and there was a GAP in the FEET.... When Outline was done it opened the area between the Boots.... To Prevent this I just placed a rectangle over the boots. When the Outline was done it hit the Rectangle and made a flat bottom to the Ornament... Then delete the rectangle.....

And to the first poster, it is all about using the Drawing Tools and the Connect Line Tool. IF you watch and make EVERY line you draw when you connect it to the LAST line drawn see the NODE GLOW RED, then it connects.

To do your sign you could have turned on the Grid line and the Snap to Grid Line and made the Grid Lines 1 inch.

Grab the Line Tool and the Connect Line Tool and draw the first line and for simplicity... From the top left corner to the bottom left corner.

The Grab the line tool and the Connect Line Tool and watch as the Node GLOWS in the bottom LEFT Corner and draw the line to the Far Right Bottom Corner. Grab the Line tool again and the Connect Line Tool. Make the bottom Right Node Glow and draw the line from the bottom right to the top right.... Now grab the ARC tool and the Connect Tool and make the Top RIGHT node light and draw the ARC to the FIRST NODE and make it GLOW...... At this time if you move your Cursor and a line continues to GROW.... Just hit ESC on the keypad.... The Bottom Lines may have Continued too without picking the tool again.... You would have pressed ESC to stop on the top right side before picking the ARC Tool... So now you grab the ARC line in the center and pull it UP and you have any size ARC you like on top....

I frequently make stuff by joining carvee areas. Use the snap to grid. Make sure trhe first area is de-selected before you start the next. Don't forget that you can change the grid size. I regularly set the snap to .25 (1/4")and on occasino to .125 (1/8") to accomplish what I am trying to do. That is how I made my casket domes for box tops and the basket weave patterns.
