Thread: Second day with my CompuCarve.

  1. #1

Default Second day with my CompuCarve.

After less than 24 hours of having my CompuCarve.....

    The third carving begins...

    After 10%

    Before cutting tabs..

And the final product with a little gel stain and wiping for shading.

This will eventually become a lid for a box but wanted to give it a bigger test than just the text I was doing yesterday..

I think it does a really nice job and I look forward to having it in the shop. Still not a single issue with it either.... Not sure what everyone else is seeing with the latest models to be shipped but I'm certainly not getting errors, broken parts, or loose belts. Just a whole lot of fun..

Very Nice, what wood did you use? Did you just stain straight from being carved, you didn't any fillers or anything like that?

    Thanks guys....

Nope, no fillers or anything... I pulled it off the machine, cut the tabs holding it in and sanded the remnants of the tabs. Then, I just used a brass brush for about 5 minutes to scrub away the little fuzz and applied the gel stain with a chip brush. Done deal....

Course, this isn't a project piece so I didn't give it any special treatment.. Normally, I think I would spray it with a shellac seal coat first, give all the little details a quick once over with some 220 then apply a stain (if any).

The wood was Solf Maple. Just a piece I had laying on the racks.

Nice looking box lid ... I saw your post on Sawmill Creek and checked it over here. It's nice to see folks taking advantage of all the forum resources we have available to us.
