Thread: Christmas lights for lithopanes

    Default Christmas lights for lithopanes

We were thinking about making lithopane Christmas ornaments and was wondering if it would be sufficiently backlit by standard christmas tree lights. We're still waiting for our DC system before trying to carve the corian and was wondering if someone would be willing to test it out and maybe take a picture or two.

    Thanks!

the weight on the corian may hinder you in what your trying to accomplish, i made some Christmas ornaments with 1/8 in and 1/4 in cast acrylic (much lighter and more translucent) and they seemed to come out pretty good, sorry no pictures cause they were given away and didn't think to take pictures. Just remember the amount of detail you can achieve in a 1/8 in piece is less than that of 1/4 in and then i used the oven to heat the material and rolled it around a form to make almost a cylinder. Then carved a wooden top with a grommet hole in the center to stick a Christmas light through and it worked out just fine.

    Just my 2 cents
