    Default 16-bit

I apologize if this question is too obtuse but what is the difference in the patterns that have 16-bit on them and the ones that do not. Do I need a special bit to handle the patterns? Thank you in advance!

No.. No special bits are required. I think all you need to know can be found in this tips & tricks issue.

It has to do with the vintage of the Pattern Editor that created the pattern. The 16 bit poatterns are more detailed - smoother between levels. If you are using an up=to=date verson of Designer you can use either, but the 16 bit will look a little better.
