    Default edge routing

hello i'm trying to do a sign and i want to round over the edges where i'm confused is they say you should keep the board under the rollers so add 7 inches but if i want to rout the edges how does that effect the length do i not tell it to stay under the rollers

If you have it route the edges the machine will find the appropriate spot and run the roundover bit where the design board edge is. It will not route the "extra" board that you have added.

Now a couple of caveats; first if you route the edge of the whole sign you should add width to your actual board as well as length. If you don't there is a chance that the roller will fall into the groove left by the edge route and allow the board to "flip" up and cause bit problems. Second, you can do a round over, or any other profile, on most projects much faster with a router or router table which saves time on the CW.
