Having trouble cuting a slot in the board. Have line highlited and the flip cut function is grayed out. have tried the 1/4" straight bit and 3/16" straight bit.
Does anyone have any thoughts what I might be doing wrong?

Attach your MPC, so we can see what you have. It will help us resolve your roadblock.
Generally, you need to make the slot a carve area, group that item, highlight the carve area and the group icon, and make it a pattern.
Once you've done that, you may orient the new pattern at will, outline it and then delete the pattern, and do as you like.
If it is just a line (not a closed fugure), the process will take some thinking to accomplish.

Designer won't let you flip drawn lines... If you can make is a complete circle or connect the first node and the last node.... You can make it a carve region. Rotate or flip the carve region then outline the carve region to make lines again.... You cannot rotate lines either most of the time.
If you watch the 2nd Video Tips and Tricks you will see MT draws lines with COREL DRAW and uses the Add On DXF Software to bring in the lines into Designer..... SO if your really big in lines and need to flip them often then buying Corel and DXF is worth it.... In Corel you can flip lines all kinds of ways.....
Good Luck,

If you are talking about the cutout tool and the flip cut feature, typically this is only used for closed object. There is an exception however. As long as both of your endpoints of the line are "off" the board, you will be able to "flip" the cut.
