When I carve it I set the depth to .250 and the height to .200 You can play with these settings until you get the carved resolution you want. Those settings work well for me. I dont have a pic of my completed carvings handy but I will try and post one later.
Did you try setting the Pattern of the Cross and Face Merge Additive,
I often carve that pattern set at .5 to .725 Deep with a height of 500 to 999

Ken, I really like the one with the carved oval region, great job.
Yes that is what I'm trying to get mine to look like. Those look so good. I tried all different depths and heights but not the merge thing.

I would prefer to see the Wood Grain background off the face -- but that's just me I guess.

Guido, just to let you know, when you use a back ground pattern, and merge additive, the back ground texture will also be on the pattern u merge. Gread for domes and such but mostly bad for back grounds like the checkering and bumps etc. For example, I used the 1" checkering on a back ground and merged additive on letters on the sign and the letters were checkered like the back ground. Just for future reference. Good luck on the carve.
Love to Make the sawdust, But I sure Hate to clean it up.
U can't find Success unless you have the patience to hang around long enough to find it!!!!
