    First, the depth max should total no more than .800
    Second, change the card load to Optimal no matter what.

    A double carve may work, I've never tried one that way.
    My attack would be to make the double carve your 2 sided MPC of the front, and just never turn the board. Both sides would be oriented exactly the same (which is different than lots of 2-sided carves).
    Your back would be a different MPC.

    I think we can now presume that you have adequate rails on this project.
    Remember the Optimal setting, on a deep carve, in any case!

    I am seeing the failure when the carving process reaches to about the point where the horns meet the skull, which is almost full depth of the cut.
    Your MPC has exceeded .80" before the horns... regarding the carve settings if your setup your MPC correctly you can use what ever settings you like* in some cases hard wood like maple likes the faster feed rates. I recommend you use the mouse trick to test your project before you carve.

    most of my carvings require full depth, working within the .805" is a bummer any less and the CW would be worthless for guitars and violins so unless you stack the wood thats the best you can ask for.

    Hey Liquidguitars, How can you figure that out about the .80 from the MPC? I'm still learning! Also if Kevin rasters on optimal, won't that take a little stress off? Mouse trick? Not young and dumb but old and dumb.

    Just a silly thought but how long is your board to begin with? At 2 inches thick, it may be a bit heavy and need some extra support when hanging out of the machine. From what you described about the cut getting deeper in the x direction maybe the board is feeding out and then angeling down due to its weight which would force the part under the cutter to lift up causing deeper cuts as you go.

    Default check z encoder

    Take the cover off the Z encoder and clean out any dust. Also make sure the encoder disk is tight on the shaft.

    I would not do this as this is not related to his error and could only dammage the machine. The Z packs are normaly sealed and do not need cleaning.

    I would like to suggest 2 possible solutions: 1) make the board 14" wide, leaving 1/2" at the top and bottome uncut, 2) carve a 3/4" thick board and then bend it. The second idea would be stronger but it would require a large steamer.
