Thread: Weird groove around pattern

    Default Weird groove around pattern

Hello. I have crated several patterns using Adobe Illustrator with some success; however whenever I do a relief carving, I wind up with a strange groove around the whole carve area. It doesn't show up in the pattern editor, but as soon as I place it on the board... there it is.

I attached 3 files. The original PNG, the pattern and the working file.

I can't see what I am doing wrong.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I put a carve region around your pattern to get a good look at it and it looks like it is just the edge of your pattern. It is not a smooth edge. You might try applying a little blurr to see if it will smooth out..

    Default Still no luck

I tried a different approach, but I am still getting strange results. I tried putting a rectangle around the whole thing. I attached the files again. I don't understand why it is putting a groove on one of the sides.

It cleaned up a lot when I took the MPC and just applied bit optimization to best and put feathering to none and put a medium draft on it.

That is the edge of the background. It may look like a blue line, it is hard to see in the PE, switch to gray scale it should show up - the image you posted is not all that good.

I ran it through my programs and it makes a some what good pattern.

Your outer ring, on your pattern, is a taper/gradient rather than a solid color.
A similar problem exists with the rectangle you added in your attempt to change your pattern.
In both cases you have left an edge line that you need to remove with Pattern Editor.
On the original pattern, the problem is probably the dark line at the very edge (it could also be a bright green).
On your rectangle, it would appear that you failed to delete the bright green line at the top. Notice that it is at the very edge of the rectangle. You may not see it readily in editor. You may need to magnify the image by rolling your mouse. Eliminate that line, and I think you'll be home free!

My "Download" link, below, has a lesson titled "Quick look at Pattern Editor" which may help you better understand the problem. You will find the best example of the green line as I work with the image of Jesus, about 5:20 into the lesson.
