    You should be able to get pretty close with this linear gradient... just unzip, and then set the depth of your pattern to the deepest depth.. and the width to your 1/2. You may have to ratiate to get the orientation right. I'sd also set the heigth to 999.

    Default Tapers and domes

    Using your MPC, you could assign Left or Right domes to each carve region, set the depth to .5, and the height to 999.

    You could also apply a Taper Pattern, in lieu of your carve regions, set about the same way.

    I wanted to do something similar awhile back in the form of a wedge, I believe Bud even helped out with it and he has a tutorial on it.
