I think the place tabs tool is only active for placing tabs across a pierced carve region. Otherwise, the button on the toolbar isn't active.

EDIT: in version 1.187 the button is active but does nothing except on a pierced carve region.

Not true. You just have to pick the depth.

So, tabs are only available for pierced regions, correct? I draw a circle (or outline a ptn), assign a bit with the same depth as my board, and while the tool is "available" (not greyed out), it does not actually place a tab as it does on a pierced pattern.

Is this expected, or might I be doing something wrong? I can successfully place tabs on pierced items. Using designer 3.

Dian, tabs are always set automatically for any cutout. The moment you have a pierced pattern, than you have to add tabs manually.

Yup, that's when I use the cutout feature. But when I want to control where the tabs are (invariably automatically put on the point of a star) I would like another option, like assigning a bit to an outline set low enough to cut through

Wasn't sure where to put this but this is the catch all I think. Doing a series on martial art weapons. First out of the gate: Nun chucks.

Nothing special. Just playing around with speed modeling. Another pattern which takes 3 minutes or less to make.

Pattern came out okay but doesn't have the sexy factor I was looking for but I don't want to throw it away so hope someone can use it at some point.

Been busy learning more modeling techniques and building patterns. So needed a quick break so did a fast little fun pattern. I like how it came out. The mpc is in designer 1.xx format and is set up as a one sided carve only so the clock mechanism will be flush with back. You should be able to use a clock mechanism for a 3/4" clock face. I included the pattern if you want to change it up a bit and carve a recess for the back of the clock for a different clock mechanism.

Disclaimer: I measured nothing on this pattern. I literally did everything by eye. When you set up your carve ensure your clock mechanism will work for your project.
