    Hello,

Take a look at Aspire also at http://www.vectric.com It is about 1/5th the cost of ArtCAM Pro and does just about anything ArtCAM can do (I own and use both Aspire and ArtCAM Pro myself). http://www.artcam.com

For full 3D modeling at a bargain price, one of our forum members (John Paluck) uses Moi3D and really enjoys it http://moi3d.com/

Aspire and ArtCAM are specifically designed for creating relief models destined to be carved on CNC machines like CarveWright, ShopBot, etc. They are not the same as a full 3D modeler like Moi, Rhino, Max and others.

If you have a solid graphics background, likely any of those programs will come easy to you. If your graphics experience/background is minimal, the Aspire software would likely be the easiest to learn.

I use a program called lightwave 3D, it's 3D object modeler is one of the best with a added bonus of making STL solid models.

If you just want to dabble with 3d modelling.. there is always teh free opensource program called "Blender"... but I think the interface leaves a lot to be desired. However, I've also seen some really cool models created with it.

You can with Moi3d for about $200 which is nurbs based...you can go with silo..around $100 polygon based...both of those you can make patterns with once you get the hang of it. I use zbrush a lot also after I make the base shapes for sculpting but on the zbrush site you can find a sculpting program called sculptris, which is free. 3d and 2.5d can get pricey...All of them out there have a learning curve..from artcam aspire max moi silo..none are going to be as simple as say a 2d graphics program..out of the box start playing around and bang you have perfect models. If you get into though it will come with time and practice and A LOT of tutorials..LOL...but for me it's as fun as carving.

    Good luck
