Better, as I have posted here for years, would be a cross-section view. Draw a line and get a coross sectional view at that point. You could see how a front and back carve line up and how thick/thin the wood is at that point. Alwo we need array copies (like CAD programs have) and feathering on carved out areas should have the options of tapered ( as is now) concave, or convex - and maybe oge.

I do not know how to say this without putting a negative spin on it, but, here goes: Do we have an example of one of our wish list suggestions actually being implemented? There have been dumb ones, ridiculous ones, and even impossible ones. There have also been quite a few really good, simple, easy to implement wishes. Just as a moral booster, can someone please give a recent example?

You can kind of do that now. You need to draw a rectangle over the board making sure that it starts where you want to see the cross section and run the rec off the end of the board. Now make it a cut out and hide the cut out and now you can rotate the board and see the cross section.

fwharris: Thank you. But is conforming vectors really an example? Who suggested it I wonder? Interesting example though since it was probability difficult to implement and it became a money making add on. Are there any more examples?
jaroot: I just change the board width to smaller values and see the cross section right away. Sometimes I have to move things near the edge.

I still think the methods explained in this post is the simplest way to generate quick and arbitrary cross sections.

But does it work if the thickness is greater than an inch?
Ok.. you got me there, but in all honesty in the 4+ years i have owned the cw, the cube in a cube will be the first project for me that will exceed an inch thick stock. (Ok.. there where a couple simple pockets i made in 2x4 & 2x6 material, but nearly 100% is 1" and thinner)

Perhaps you are asking about something like this.
