Thread: belt roll up

  1. #1

    Default belt roll up

I have had one of my belts roll up on the key board side. I have read threads on how to realign belts after moving it over still have the roll. How do I take the belt assembly off to unroll the belt?? I do not want to take the entire machine apart when there may be just one or two screws to take out. I sure wish there were better maintenance instructions with manual. It kind of makes me feel like an idiot that I can't figure it out on my own.

Belt removal/moving is pretty easy. I tried to copy and paste the link for you. If it doesn't work then go to the Carvewright.com page and click on support then maintenance.

I have use a simple bar clamp to compress the springs and then put a small nail into the hole to hold the spring compressed.

Take a look at post #1 of this thread. You cant probably fix the issue without ever removing the belts.

I am a believe in the RIP OFF Method to fix it..... I have ripped off my belt 4 times.... Soon I will replace it....

    Just lazy... But it works....

The real question is WHY did the belt roll up. This is typically an issue with the head (part that cranks up/down) not being level with the macine's base. If you use a piece of wood that is not planed parallel it could cause the same problem. The new rubber/Kevlar feed belts will not roll up and are a great upgrade to the machine. No more sandpaper belts for me

My feeling on why they roll is like Jeff Said..... But I have an additional Theory on why they roll up.... I do a lot of 6 inch boards and when I first start up in the morning the belts tend to drag when measuring. Since the left side of the belt gets stretched and makes it funnel shaped and naturally move over...

I am still sold on the Sand Paper belts even with all the quirks...

What happen is that my sled got jammed in the machine and the belts kept moving. Don't know exactly what happen but once I unrolled the belt I haven't had any problems. When I took the belt assembly out I found a piece of rubber tubing about 1/2 in long and a 1/4 in in diameter on the outside on the key pad side of the machine. My machine is a reconditioned one and maybe was just left there by accident, I hope. Sure appreciate all you guys sharing your knowledge. Where can I get the kevlar belts? Can I order them from CW and how much will they cost??

I beleive there is a small piece of tubing on the brass roller mechanism that acts as a shock absorber, but I dont remember anyone saying it was that long.. i thougth it was just a short little piece.

Here is one post I found about it...
