    Default New CarveTight running HOT

I just installed the new CarveTight spindle & z truck. I did a short (15 min.) centerline text carving with a 90 degree V in soft pine. The whole z truck was almost too hot to touch. Does anyone know if this is "normal" for a new assembly?
    Any advice will be appreciated.

Could just need to run a little to break in, keep a eye on it and let us know if it cools down.

    Default CarveTight spindle

I haven’t installed my CarveTight spindle yet; I will install it after lunch and let you know if mine will get hot. My old z-truck has Ron’s QC chuck, it’s in good shape so I did not take the time to test the new CarveTight spindle yet.

    Default Hot

I am 1 hour into a 4 hour carve and actually it seems to be running a little cooler, not much, but enough I cam hold a finger on it for about 10 seconds. Also, I am sure no lube from the flex shaft got into it.
BJB, keep us informed. My install went pretty smooth, except the LocTight kicked off too quick in this 90 degree heat.

    Default Hot?

OK. Carving came out fine. Not having any type of IR temperature equipment, I took a very accurate stick thermometer and placed as much of the shaft would fit on the left side of the Z truck. Initially it read 122 degrees. About 2 hrs into the carve it read 118; at 3 hours, 115 and stayed there. If I waited 60 seconds to take the temp, it would be 110 or less. Not a real accurate way to do things, but it does indicate (I think) that there is some kind of run in period. Maybe LHR will answer my email Tuesday and I'll know for sure.
    Thanks, to all.

    Default Carve Tight Spindle

I have my new carve tight spindle installed, but I can not test it. I found my Z-Truck Ribbon Cable damaged. I cut the cable off at the brake and scraped new contacts. Not sure if the cable will be too short. Has anyone tried that?

Too Short.... It will get to the Bit Flag and rip the FSC cable out at an angle under power and either toast the Motor.... Happened to ME.... snagged... or damage the $300.00 computer driver....
