You can attach your mpc here, more than one will help -

When you reply to this, go down the page until you see "manage attachments". Browse to find your mpc, and place it there.

    Hello,

Post your mpc here (delete any commercial patterns first, if any), so we can take a peek at it. Also, give a good description of what you want to achieve, as well as the specific trouble you are having.

    Jerry,

I looked twice, thinking I misread your post. I can't find anything close to "manage attachments". Where might one find these elegant words?

    There are two ways
First, is the Paper Clip in the tool bar.
Second, is an additional section just below the Reply screen. This one will allow you to do other tasks as well.

Something tells me you're pulling my chain, but I can't seem to figure out where.

    Thanks for the offer.
I think I deleted what I had but I need something simple that would carve fairly quickly.
I have a terrible time doing letters. Everything seems to chip. I just don't know well enough what I am doing.
    The plaque needs to say
    Richardson County Spelling Bee
    2010
    5th/6th
    1st
All of this is up for however you see fit.
I guess it could include some sort of art as well.
Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide.
    I really appreciate it.

    Tablerock - How's this?

8x8 finished board, don't forget 3.5" on each end when carving, font is Rockwell Condensed.

Carve on Optimum if using select pine (found at Home Depot).

It will carve well for you.

    Hello,

General Tips for raster-carved lettering in wood...

    1) Bold, Sans-Serif fonts do best for smaller-sized letters (under 1" tall)

    2) Reduce the height of smaller-sized letters to 1/8" or less

    3) Use the Draft feature on all lettering - that's the main reason the feature was added to the software - it was actually added as a result of a conversation I had with the inventor of the machine regarding letter-chipping prevention! Small or Medium setting usually works best for lettering, but the Large setting can create some interesting effects.

    4) Serif fonts work best when the lettering is going to be larger in size and with the Bold setting (and, of course use Draft and reduce the height of the letters to avoid chipping off the serifs unless the lettering is fairly large.)

    5) Tight-grained hardwoods are less prone to chip-out

    Hope that helps.

P.S. - Oh, I wanted to mention that we have a somewhat realistic Bee pattern available at our website if you need it (although I really like the bee and layout of the plaque that Jerry did for you!). http://www.carvebuddy.com/insects.html
