Tapering
Is there a way to taper a cut between two circles? I'd like to have a circular area carved to a certain depth and a larger concentric circle tapering from that cut to the surface.

taper cut
if i understand what you a doing . after drawing circle hit carve regan, set depth of cut, then hit feather, 1/8 - 1/4 ect.

The tapering tool worked for the first circle that I drew, and I tapered 1/4". I drew another circle starting at the bottom of the taper. I wanted to taper some more, but the tapering tool wouldn't become active. I want to taper from an outer circle to an inner cirtcle. I want the radius of the inner circle to be about 1 in. or more smaller.

Please ignore last post. I forgot to click on carve region first.

I repeat my request for help. I will use a concrete example this time. I want to taper from a circle with a 10" diameter down to a circle with an 8" diameter. If possible, I would like to specfy the final depth.
Here's what I've tried: Start with a 12"x12"x0.75" board. Drew 5" radius circle centered. Clicked on Carve Region, then Feather 1/4". Fine up to here. Then, I drew a concentric circle with a 4.75" radius. Although the wood measures 0.500" at this point (0.250" below the surface) the program assumes that it is full thickness and feathers from the surface to o.25" below the surface.

I think what is needed is the ability to specify the feather (or taper) instead of only being able to select 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, or none. Then you could draw your 10 inch diameter circle, assign a 1 inch feather thus feathering from 10 inch circle to 8 inch circle (reduces 1 inch on both ends of the diameter).
Brett, any chance of allowing custom feathering in a future release?
