Starting this series of Book Ends..... The Book End will have a 3/4 x 2 inch slot centered in the bottom piece.
The Deer9 has a tendon that will be rounded slightly and the deer is double sided so it can be inserted either way. Next will be the Bear then Rabbit and more.... Santa and the Reindeer could be next.... Punkin.... Shamrock..... Christmas Tree.... Cut out Kids Names.... Lots of ideas.... And the Book Ends would most likely get more use holding up CD's...
Did some Carve Regions around the feet and antlers on both sides to make it look better. See the early Bear where the feet are recessed with thick wood around it....
Made the first cut of the Deer and made the adjustments to the Cut Path. It is really COOL that Designer STILL will Add the Tabs with the back being carved....
I borrowed the Idea from MT.... THANKS !!!!!

Hi AL,
Those are going to be GREAT! As far as "whose idea"...you mentioned a dovetail groove...I had thought of using a plain slot to slide figures into and swap...then you thought of the mortise and tenon idea...your idea is the best one, as far as I'm concerned! Simple, easy and effective!
TIP: "Interchangeable" design bookends will make wonderful gifts and/or items to sell at craft shows. Think "add-on" sale...have a set of bookend bases for $xx amount, then have a nice assortment of carved items to insert into the bookends, priced separately.
