    Default QC disassembly trick

In the process of trying to put a good QC together out of parts, one may need to separate the inner tapered body from the threaded nut. In my case, I had a new QC with the threads machined crooked. The QC wobbled so bad that it was unbearable. I wanted to use the threaded part from an old QC with a damaged tapered part. These parts are snapped together with a clip ring hidden inside. To compress the clip, I drilled four 1/16" holes in the nut, 1/10" from the bottom edge (see the picture). Using picks to compress the clip through the holes, the parts separate.

The QC replacements will be availble from Ron Justice soon...then we won't have to fuss with the LHR QC anymore.

I measured and drilled where I thought the clip would be. Got lucky first try!
