In the process of trying to put a good QC together out of parts, one may need to separate the inner tapered body from the threaded nut. In my case, I had a new QC with the threads machined crooked. The QC wobbled so bad that it was unbearable. I wanted to use the threaded part from an old QC with a damaged tapered part. These parts are snapped together with a clip ring hidden inside. To compress the clip, I drilled four 1/16" holes in the nut, 1/10" from the bottom edge (see the picture). Using picks to compress the clip through the holes, the parts separate.
