How are you doing the slices in Carrara? I've used the depth map to bring some images in, but never in slices?
Welcome Back!
I use Carrara 7.2 for rendering. It's not free. You can do it with Carrara 6.2, but you have to jump through some hoops. Carrara 6.2 has been free in a couple of the 3D magazines lately. With 6.2...
It takes some getting used to. If you go over to daz3d.com and look at the Hexagon forums there, you will see a lot of tutorials. I'm pretty sure that you have to register over there.
By the...
Hexagon is a good modeling tool to build 3-D models. I've been using it for a little over a year. You can make a 3-D model, but I have to render it in another package to get a displacement map to...
I found a link to the pdf I was talking about.

Carvepic will take dxf files I believe. It's been several...
I did a google search several months ago and found several files that detail the format of a DXF file. I did it on another computer, and I'm sitting in a hotel at the moment, but you should be able...
Chris,
After I posted that last night, I believe it was a guy at Rockler that told me that. After watching a couple of videos on the unit, I believe that he was mistaken.
So, please ignore...
I looked at these before getting my CW. I was under the same impression as you that you had to leave the computer hooked up to it. Later I was told (over at Saw Mill Creek) that the controller box...
My stock was 7/8" and I had cut paths around the outside and carved about 1/2" deep at max. There is a picture here:

Good to see you back.

Jack,
I hope you did not glue a kitten down and scan it!

A vertical tool rest just does not seem natural. For the life of me, I can't see how you could get a smooth surface that way.
On the other hand, it you learned on one of these critters, then a...
Jack,
Get that thing fixed as fast as you can. My thoughs and prayers are with you.

Here is one. Sorry, no preview pic.

That is great. I love it.:)
I remember upgrading my color computer from 16k to 64k. I bought 4 gig of memory the other day for less than those chips cost.
One of the guys here has a program for sell that will convert dxf files to cw files. It is at http://www.opitw.com/carvepic.htm
Nevermind, I misread your post
Just upgraded my computer from 1 gig of memory to 4 gigs (well, only 3.something show up since I have a 32 bit OS). I was ready to call up CW to fuss because I just knew the upgrade was going to...
I'm not to sure that would work out so well. I've turned about 50 pens so far. You have to drill out the center to get the mechanisms to install. In addition, there are brass tubes in the center...
It does change the geometry. I've done a couple and brought them into Bryce to render an altitude map.
Terry,
Are you happy with those? I bought a set a couple of weeks ago, but have not had a chance to carve anything yet.
