The newer bit has 3 times the number of twists which will remove chips faster. Faster chip removal = cooler running bit.
Really Nice!!
Where did you find the JDPaint? I've found the Company website, but not a download..
I'm with Pratyeka move off the CW onto Shark and now in the process of building a 5 axis unit. The CW was good to start with but now seems rather limited in it's function. Still have the CW set-up,...
I'm not sure how I missed this thread.
For those of you who haven't used one of Norbert's patterns you're missing out. He's a great model maker and his annual subscription rate is well worth...

Either export it as and STL or as a Gery scale bmp. I think STL files are better..
The color of the tape isn't as important as it's ability to reflect light. That's the problem with painting the board black, the sensor can't see enough of the reflected light to sense the board. ...
I agree, Blender is a good (and FREE) program to start you out with making patterns. But as Eddie pointed out Aspire is well worth the investment. I have it, was using it to make patterns for my...
If you can export a STL file or a Grey Scale height map you can import it into the Designer. Any other format and you will need another program.

If you can wait a few days I beleive I still have an Autodesk drawing of the ADA Logo (Ya I'm showing my age..live with it) that I can convert into a pattern.
Well I've added a new toy for the wood shop. Picked up a Shark Plus HD from Rockler. I've made 2 carvings with it so far and screwed them both up, just a little bit of a learning curve here. So...

jpaluck,
I can see where getting from 3d to 2.5d would be a better method, but I'm not sure Daz will do that. What program are you using?
And I've found one solution, that is the unlink the scale factor on the STL importer and set the z axis to the depth I want to carve, .5 on these. I still lose detail but not as much. Still looking...
I've recently started using Daz3D for create patterns with and have made some nice 3D models. I've been saving them as a Wavefront object and converting them to STL then in to the Pattern editor.

I used Corin for this part, it will be fitted into a peice of Ipa to form an inlay..
And it did, haven't carved it yet, but playing with it in the editor I can't see where changing the depth of the cut changes the hollow, could just be a fault of the software and it will carve the...
OK, made a carving using the 1/32 bit. Did a rough carve first with the 1/16 then dropped the depth .05 and carved again. Had no problems with the bit and it does seem to bring out a little more...
