Just bought 10 stl 's from e bay. All though I tried to save them to downloads, they were saved kind a at random.

I've got the same thing, all I know is to watch where it goes when you save it and change it to downloads or documents where you can find it.
Some times it goes to PC, or my name, or OS (C;) then...

Some of the STL files that are over sized come back as corrupt file.

You might try Pinterest, search "grayscale" click once on picture for more of the same type, click again for source. Also ebay, search stl, 3d, cnc. Good luck.

May sound funny, but started putting Tung oil on with a rag. Clean no runs. Then apply poly with the same.

Have you tried merge? It might change the height. That's as close as it gets.

The software carves either side the line, doesn't it? Is that close enough? Can you use feather and draft for the taper?
