What type of pattern would you all like to see?
As my wife and I joke, something to 'ponder over'. Will let you know. Thanks for the offer of time and talent.
I do have a couple older pieces of equipment I would like patterns of to place on signs for the property. One would be an old cat 12 grader, the other is a IH TD340 crawler with 4 n 1 loader. just something that came to mind. I know it most likely would not be in high demand, but thought I would toss it into the mix.
Guys, thanks for the feedback.
Mugsowner, cool inputs. Definitely in the mix.
I couldn't sleep again last night so kept myself busy by modeling a close approximation of an old style grader. Not true to life but what I could do in a couple of hours.
Here is the grey scale height map image of the model.
For any new members use import image into the Designer software for the pattern.
Very sharp looking Oscar. I will have to test carve as soon as I get a little time. Great work again. Thank you
No worries. It was a fun model to make.
I'll leave the post open if anyone wants to add to the suggestion box.
Have come up with one. Have a granddaughter who is into tennis. My thought is something using two rackets crossed with the handles pointing down and a ball between them just below where they cross. A wild thought was for them to have enough depth that is could turn it into a two sided carve but the strings would probably be extremely frail.
Appreciate anything you can come up with.
The pattern should be pretty easy to make but I don't think it will be a good candidate for a two sided carve. The strings will be too thin.
Fun little pattern and I now have a tennis racket pattern for my library. Here are a few variations. Hopefully one works for you.
I do not believe it will make a good two sided carve though.
Wow, like everything that is in our minds the amount of options make us think. The picture in my mind was sort of like option 2. But once I see the different ones you created I'm going to have to do some thinking. Really appreciate your time and effort, will let you know and provide a pic of the winner. May take a while to get completed, life somehow keeps finding things to fill the hours..

No worries. Hope one of them works for you. I have the models now in my library so can always do a different configuration if you need.
And I know. I have to many hobbies and too much procrastination.
Took a minute and ran a test carve. What's the odds of the only knot on the board being exactly where the tennis ball ended up. Didn't even think to check. Was just a test so no biggie . Like all three designs and will probably do a smaller test carve on all and let her pick out her favorite. Haven't figured out the MPC design yet. Also want to play with how to color/stain this one to accent it
Again, thanks a lot, really is appreciated.
Nice! Let us know how it goes.
Realized I was about to commit a big no no. Now I need another favor. The tennis player has a younger sister who has taken an interest in soccer so obviously I can't make something for just one. Any chance you would make something for soccer? Not a lot of options come to mind here, maybe the goal . Thought about a ball with it but the difference in size probably would make the ball a dot. Anyway, would greatly appreciate anything you will do to save my butt. Thanks in advance.
lol. I understand.
The goal might not be a good choice for a pattern. The net string/rope is really thin for carving. And you are right about there not being much. I googled the term and not much came up.
Finally, some soccer cleats with a soccer ball came up and I liked the image. I'll try to model something this afternoon. Have a doc appointment today.
Some quick modeling. What do you think?
The ball looks kind of weird without color.
Looks good. Will try and get a test run. Agree on the weird, looks like a volleyball except the pattern. Paint should cure that ill.
Thank you!!!!
It was bugging me that the ball would require painting for it to stand out as a soccer ball so I worked on the texture. I am hoping this works better.
The new one looks better than the first. Have already run a test of the first one and did a quick paint. Notice the slight change in the shoe/cleat along with the ball. Really makes a big difference. Will now be able to make one each for the granddaughters and not create any prob. My wife likes both so they have gotten the stamp of approval.
As always, thank you.
You are very welcome. Hope they love the presents.
Attachment 88929I would welcome a blacksmith pattern.
love it. let me see what I can do.
Finished up chainsawing a tree I felled a month ago in 95 degrees of East Texas weather. Drenched in sweat, stinky and my wife said to stay away from her until I shower so decided to model instead. I'll shower later. lol.
Oscar that turned out fantastic! You have an awesome talent.
Thanks again.
Awesome. Glad you liked it. Hopefully it works for you.
Not a skill I have but am impressed by what I've seen others produce. Son-in-law got the bug for making knives from the TV show and has made some really beautiful ones. Thanks to Jims request I now have a project that hopefully he will like. Thanks to Jim and Oscar.

Cool. Hope it works for you.
