Steve,
The come with the pressed on sleave...http://store.carvewright.com/product...cat=291&page=1 just like the 1/8 and 1/16 bit..
yes i knew that they had a presed on sleeve, I have the rock chucks, and would like to use the 3/16, wondering what the shank size is , i can press bit out of sleeve, or would i have to? could the sleeve work in the rock? thanks for response Floyd
steve
The O.D. of the sleeve is 1/2", so, if you have a 1/2" Rock it will fit. However, the length of the bit may not be correct for a machine using a Rock.
Pressing off the sleeve may not be the best idea! It may be better, for you, to just buy your bit from another source.

thanks Bud, I am a machinist, so i believe i could press bit out of sleeve without breaking it. considered another source for 3/16" carving bit but all searches came up with total length of carving (fluted area ) 5/8 long, so i would be limited to depth of carve.
so question still is what is the O.D. of the shank of 3/16 bit?
steve
Hi Skeeterman!!!
I went and asked.
The O.D. of the 3/16" Carving bit is 1/4". We have not tested it on the Rock, but they said it looks like it should be okay. Might require some testing & tweaking.
I have the rock, and I am on my second 3/16th bit already. No issues whatsoever. I change my bits every 100 hours and the 3/16th is awesome. It took my carving time down drastically. Awesome!!!
Thank you Connie, now i will order my Bits.
United cases, are you using the 3/16 with the sleeve still on bit with the rock? and if so are there any length issues with it in the Rock as Bud pointed out that may exist
steve
Yes, it is the bit with the pressed on sleeve from carvewright. No issues at all. Seems like it will handle the load a lot better. I carve in nothing but oak and the results are better than ever. All I had to do was buy the 1/2 adapter from Ron. A worthwhile investment.
Mine comes in @ 0.2495"
