Does anyone have an extra square drive tool they would be willing to sell or suggest an alternative? I was all set to order a Carvetight today to find the price had jumped from $159 to $200 TODAY! Just my luck... So if I can get my QC off I'm going to try the musclechuck ($107) seems like this would be similar to a rock chuck.

Where are you getting the musclechuck from? I've purchased them in the past for about $70.
From What I see on their website I need a type 5. I can't seem to find a type 5 anywhere but straight from them. any suggestions on a good source would be appreciated. By the way is yours satisfactory?Quote:

It locks the bit in so measurements are spot on. The collets from Carvewright and other cheaper collets I've used I always get errors because it's next to impossible to keep the bit in the same exact spot within the collet and the carvewright asks for me to re-measure it.
Oh, and it works just as well as the carvetight chuck in my opinion. that collet, I told you about though fits a little tighter in the musclechuck than in the carvetight, making it more difficult to remove. so before you install it, see if you can use a flat tip screw driver to pry the slits open just a little more.

I have snapped 3 of the square drive bits used to remove the old QC on one truck. They were from Ron who made the rock chucks. I finally gave up on that truck. I even shoved a soldering iron up inside the QC to soften the red forever locktite. I would remove the QC before you buy the Muscle Chuck. You may destroy the truck and be stuck with a MC and need to buy the Carvetite. Remember the soldering iron trick... Too much flame heat can damage the spindle bearings. Good Luck.
Thanks for your input AL I greatly respect it. That was just exactly what I planned to do after studying post by you and others. That way if I trash the truck I don't end up with a part that I can't use. By the way, I saw a post where you said you had bought 1 but never used it. I snapped a couple of them myself. What finally worked for me was a short section of 1/2" round steel rod (Home Depot) heated to white hot with a map gas/butane torch and inserting it into the chuck. Yes, I have a MC in reserve. Have not used it yet.
Will likely be a Xmas or Black Friday SALE that will lower the price back down to the pre raise price so watch for it....
