I am carving a shape within a carving region and I would like to know how can you have a carving region within a carving region (see picture). Thank you for any and all help.

Make sure the region you want as a region is connected . If it is open it will not highlight the button you want to select.

It appears that you actually have 3 carve regions. Outer set to a depth, middle with depth set to 0, and an inside carve region that you want recessed. Group the middle and the inside carve regions. Select the middle carve region, right click and select "Clip Carving: Exclusive". You can play with the heights and depths to get the results you want.
EDIT: Grouping tells the Designer which carve regions are affected by the clip.

Thank you for your quick response and it worked, Thank you very much.
Group "arc 4" and "arc 2". Apply Clip Carving: exclusive to arc 2. If you want arc 5 recessed also move it into the group.
