Thanks Rick and Mike. Well I couldn't resist so I designed and carved some decorative washers. I recently built a loft in my shop and used the cast washers there. The blue is from chalk line powder that I use to help the sand release from the mold.

very awesome.
Jim,
Glad to see you back to carving. Great project and thanks for the step by step process.
Thanks, actually I never quit carving, but it was always just average stuff. The last couple of years got very busy as I prepared for retirement. Now that I'm retired I have the time to explore some options with my Carvewright.
Here's another carving and resulting casting:

Wondering if you make your own green sand or do you purchase it?
I recently carved a monogram and then cast it in brass for a present for my brother. It's not perfect but I like the idea of it being personal.

Looks great, am sure that all the work you put into it will make it a treasured item for him.
Thx for sharing with us.
From what i notice, those of us that do this type of work will always be able to find faults in the work. From what i am seeing, the monogram looks great, nice work.
Thanks guys. I gave it to my brother last night and he could hardly believe that I made it. He absolutely loved it and that makes it all worth while.
