Native American plaque test carve.
I didn't have any nice 1.5" deep lumber so chopped up an old cedar construction 2x4 I had lying around for the blank. A lot of knots so I painted it. I also hate sanding so I have a lot of fuzzies left. Both from the type of lumber used and my laziness to sanding. Overall really happy with the pattern though.
Carved 3/4" deep on 11" circle.

Really turned out nice, Have the same issue with sanding. Tried a lot of ways but still hate it.

Looks great Oscar.
I'm not sure, but I do not think I have heard anyone says "I like sanding". Just another unicorn hunt.

The projects are starting to pile up. I started making mallets for Christmas several weeks ago and have only finished 3. I gave 2 to my sister when she was visiting up from Houston last week. This first batch was for me to remember how to make them again.
I want to make 4 more for the second batch. They will be purple heart and hickory for the handles. I want to carve a ram skull on them to make them cooler. Hopefully I can get to them this week.
I still haven't picked up any poplar to test carve the Halloween patterns either.
New model/pattern I made this morning for the mallets.

I like the look of your Ram's head. Great detail.

Unfortunately, I am carving it at 2"x3"x.2" so I will be losing detail.

Sounds like somebody is going to get really nice Xmas gifts. Pls post a pic of one, purpleheart should pop.

Even if some detail is lost, I feel it will still be a awesome look.
