Just a quick question..... how far does the board move during each pass of the carving bit? I am using 1.188 firmware.
This would depend on which bit you are using and the type of carving (raster or vector). Not knowing for sure, but thinking the board moves along the X axis at about .015 per pass of the 1/16" carving bit.
Michael Tyler posted the info some time back. It included the step over rate for each upload quality setting I think.

For the 1/16" carving bit, the step sizes are roughly:
Draft -> 0.010"
Normal -> 0.008"
Best -> 0.005"

That would be a fun test with a Dial Indicator and a video camera.... So you could freeze frame it later to see the results.
If I think of it, I'll grab my indicator from work and try it some time.
