The ER 20 spindle may be a bit hard to come by. Most that I have read about seem the be to big for this machine. However there was a ER11 chuck that was made for these machines. I can not find anything on them now as I look, but bergerud may be able to help here as it is his design and he was working with a manufacture a while back.
It was the ER20 spindle that I had made. It was not too big. In fact it is the same dimensions as the CT. It is what I use. The ER11 that I also had made was not a spindle but an adapter which fit into the ER20 or CT.
I sent out quite a few ER20 spindles and suppose that some of them did not get used. If anyone out there has one of these ER20 spindles and is not using it, there are more than a few members who would like one.
I can personally recomend the muscle chuck as a more affordable option. works great.

But... i would remove the existing chuck first before ordering to make sure that the z-truck doesn't get trashed!
What is the best tool to stick in the top to hold it? I have a wrench for the chuck itself
the tool can be bought here.https://forum.carvewright.com/showth...e+tool+removal
I broke this tool and made one from grinding a bolt down. Heres a thread that i found helpful when i went to remove mine.

Seems like this machine is a real pain in the ***!! Instead of making the bits proprietary they could have been more adaptable and user friendly
i feel your pain. i have a love hate relationship with my machine....... mostly hate. i dont use cw bits i just use the 1/4" collet adapter. never had a problem.
I live in Austin TX
There are 2 Facebook pages for the CW. Lots of discussions about the machine. Like many of us, you will learn to love the machine.
So how do I hold the spindle on the top so I can get the chuck off?
Check with CarveWright to see if they still sell this. It says discontinued but shows up in the store. It fits the square hole on top of the spindle.. OR you can grind down something to fit.
